REF – impact of HEFCE policy on open access 2014-08-20

"Notification from the Open Access Project Team at the University Library ... As you may be aware, HEFCE have recently announced a new policy for open access in relation to future research assessments. This policy will run in parallel with other funder open access policies including RCUK, Wellcome Trust and others. To be eligible for the REF, authors are now required to deposit their accepted, peer reviewed journal articles and conference proceedings in an institutional repository, at the time of acceptance for publication. Some embargo periods are acceptable. The implication is that we must have 100% of Author’s Accepted Manuscripts (AAMs) available through an institutional repository by 1 April 2016. This is a massive challenge and we are therefore taking HEFCE’s advice to begin implementation now. We aim to work with authors towards collecting 50% of articles accepted for publication by December 2014. If you have any queries please contact Michele Ide-Smith More information is available from the University of Cambridge Open Access."
