Summary:

"Open Access is one of the most important shake ups in academia for the last 50 years. At figshare, we are strong believers in the power of open access to do good. Allowing researchers to build on top of the findings of their peers makes the whole system more efficient. Included in this is the ability to reuse, remix and mine the content, looking for hidden patterns in large amounts of research. This is why all research uploaded to figshare is released under CC licence We have previously demonstrated our commitment to open access and open data through projects such as the Reproducability Initiative and partnerships with big proponents of open access such as PLOS. PLOS, along with google and the Wellcome Trust are the main sponsors of an initiative we are proud to get behind, the Accelerating Science Award Program (ASAP). ASAP recognizes individuals who have used, applied, or remixed scientific research – published through Open Access – to make a difference in science, medicine, business, technology, or society as a whole. Potential nominees include individuals, teams or groups of collaborators such as scientists, researchers, educators, technology leaders, entrepreneurs, policy makers, patient advocates, public health workers, and students ..."
