Summary:

"Allegheny College faculty have adopted an open access policy, part of an international movement to share information and advocate for open access to research and scholarship. Faculty members at the college grant Allegheny nonexclusive permission to make available their scholarly articles and to exercise the copyright in those articles for the purpose of open dissemination. The Provost’s Office will make the scholarly articles available to the public in an open access repository. Allegheny is one of the earliest four-year colleges to pass an open access policy and join the Coalition of Open Access Policy Institutions, the leading advocacy organization for open access among North American colleges and universities. The open access movement in scholarly journal publishing seeks to provide unrestricted global access to peer-reviewed scholarly articles. It is a response to the accelerating cost of subscription journals, the need for financially strapped societies to have equal access to scholarly work and an increasing awareness by scholars of their stake in copyright agreements."
