"The UBC Okanagan Library welcomes submissions to the 2014 UBC Okanagan Open Access Hall of Fame. First launched in the Fall of 2013, the Open Access Hall of Fame displays the efforts of UBC Okanagan faculty, graduate students, and researchers to make their research open and available to all and aims to acknowledge and support those who consider open access avenues when publishing their work. In April 2013, an Open Access Position Statement was read by the UBC Okanagan Senate encouraging faculty and researchers to submit their research output and creative work to cIRcle, UBC’s institutional repository. Read about the Open Access Position Statement. There are two types of open access Publishing: Green and Gold. Green open access publishing is the self-archiving of articles or other materials published in an institutional or central repository or other Open Access website. Articles do not need to be published in Open Access journals to be green as long as they are archived in an Open Access database or repository. For example, articles archived in cIRcle would be considered Green. Gold open access publishing is when articles are published in any journal that is Open Access with immediate, free access. The number of Open Access journals is growing quickly as the Open Access movement grows. Any faculty member, graduate student, or researcher who has published in an open access platform (journal or repository) is encouraged to submit his/her citation(s) to Laura Thorne, Librarian at laura.thorne@ubc.ca for inclusion in the UBC Okanagan Open Access Hall of Fame. Submissions are due Friday, October 3, 2014. If you submitted citations in 2013, those will continue to be included this year."
