FigShare.com: A new way to share unpublished data | (no-)Life Science

Summary:

“We all have unpublished data from preliminary experiments, or part of experiments we couldn’t put in an article because there was already too many figures or also data we can’t publish because the scientific journals only want ‘positive’ results and reject those which are ‘negative’ or inconclusive. But when I was student, my professors used to tell me that ‘a negative result IS a result!!!’… apparently not for editors ! The problem with these tons of unpublished data all around the world is that they are not accessible and we all lose money and energy failing where many people have already failed, and we don’t even know it. But this time is over thanks to FigShare! FigShare is a FREE online service that permits to share online figures, tables, videos, etc. with all the scientific community. All your submissions are ‘available under the Creative Commons Attribution License (CCAL) so that authors retain ownership of the copyright but allow anyone to download, reuse, reprint, modify, distribute and/or copy data from FigShare, provided the original authors and source are cited and included in any publications stemming from the use of this data’. You can upload an unlimited amount of data in your public folder and you have 1GB of private space (but be careful, you know what I think about privacy and online storage). FigShare has all the traditional tools given to social networks, like sharing tools and a comments, but also specific tools adapted for research like the possibility to download the reference for your favourite citation manager...”
