Summary:

"The University of Texas Libraries is taking part in an international campaign to promote freedom of access to scholarly research through a series of events taking place in October. Open Access Week — now in its 8th year — is an opportunity for academic and research communities to continue to further promote understanding of the potential benefits of Open Access, to share what they’ve learned with colleagues and to encourage wider participation in efforts to make Open Access a new norm in scholarship and research. The theme for this year’s International Open Access Week is "Generation Open” to highlight the importance of students and early career researchers as advocates for change in the short-term through institutional and governmental policy, and as the future upon whom the ultimate success of the Open Access movement depends.  The theme will also explore how changes in scholarly publishing affect scholars and researchers at different stages of their careers. The Libraries will be hosting events to raise awareness of issues related to open access, with a special keynote by Open Access advocate and early-career neuroscience researcher Erin McKiernan, a forum on Open Access with university faculty and staff at the School of Information and OpenStreetMap Edit-a-thon where participants can learn and contribute to crowd-sourced mapping. Events will take place October 17-23 and are free and open to the public ..."
