Summary:

"Modern government are ignoring the lessons of history according to two leading academics, who are inviting the public to join their debate by distributing their new book free of charge.  Jo Guldi, of Brown University and David Armitage, the British chair of history at Harvard University, have written The History Manifesto, which argues historical scholarship has become disengaged from public life, with history losing its influence of government and policy-making.  The book has been published by the Cambridge University Press, which hosted the launch party at its Cambridge bookshop yesterday.  As well as the paperback edition, which will be available from £12.99, the book will be downloadable for free as a pdf, in order to encourage wider debate on the issues it raises."
