In its sixth year at Florida State, Open Access Week, taking place Oct. 20-26 will encompass two campus-wide initiatives to tear down the virtual wall blocking scholarly research from the public. 'The principle of open access is that publicly funded scholarship and research should be accessible to the general public,' according to a statement regarding Open Access Week on fsu.edu. 'Universities around the world are supporting this principle by working toward providing unrestricted online access to peer-reviewed scholarly research from scholarly journal articles to growing number of theses, book chapters and scholarly monographs.' Scholarly Communication Librarian at Florida State Micah Vandegrift is at the forefront of the Open Access Movement.
