Summary:

"Why is the free access to research results important? What must be done to introduce open access in a non-profit organization? What are the legal risks?

Patient organizations are concerned not only about the patient's well-being, but they want to improve the future and therefore promote research projects.  Patient organizations are non-profit organizations and receive donations.Compared to for-profit enterprises, the community should benefit from the activities.  Free access to research results is referred to as open access. All interested - Researchers from rich and poor countries, private scholars, professionals, patients - can read the results and use them for their work. The science builds on shared knowledge.  It is clear that the profit of the research will be better achieved if research results freely available public and the research community are able to benefit fully from the funded projects. An organization can thus support the research with the collected donations total more. And so their charitable purpose to promote and support research to meet even better .  The Swiss MS Society has therefore decided to open access to funded research to introduce.  How are you?  A Guide ...  The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) has introduced the free availability of research publications in 2008. This is precisely the model other organizations promoting research oriented: The self-supported researchers are committed to open access to their publications. The author, the authors have the copyright.  For the authors, there are two possibilities, either it is published in an open access journal ( Gold Road ), or if not, the authors are their publication, the author they are also put on the Internet ( Green Road ). The publication is available free of charge in any case for all.  Since the Rectors' Conference of Swiss Universities has been known to open access and since the SNF regulations require it, each Swiss university maintains an Internet publication archive. There, the researchers upload their own articles high as PDF.  Open Access can at any research-promoting organization therefore by asmall change in the grant agreement be reached with the supported researchers, for example, with the following sentence: 'As with the provisions of the SNF, the applicant commit in principle, publications arising from the promotion as open Access to filters (about gold or Green Road) and inform the Open Access publication link the promotion company.'  Following the amendment to the agreement, the only work of promoting the company's management of the links."
