Summary:

[From Google's English] "In Latin America and the Caribbean, two thirds of the research is publicly funded. However, access to the results of that research is hampered by limitations in traditional systems of academic and scientific papers. CLASCO accompanies universities and governments in the region in the promotion and development of strategies and initiatives that provide free access via the Internet to research results in the region. Thus CLACSO has developed its digital repository that now receives more than 850,000 requests per month, and works together with Latindex, Redalyc, SciELO, Reference, and institutional digital repositories and portals university magazines, to give visibility to production region. They are all initiatives managed in the academic-scientific noncommercial area. CLASCO promotes a model of open knowledge as a common good access. Faced with these Latin American management initiatives Open Access cooperation and solidarity, we see with great concern, advance proposals for international commercial publishers to manage the open access of Latin American journals. CLASCO renews its support for institutional and academic initiatives regional mentioned to give visibility and open to the scientific and academic production in Latin America and the Caribbean, access and expects governments in the region give their full support to strengthen these initiatives against commercial proposals presented to the region."
