Summary:

"Recently Nature Publishing Group announced an experiment around content sharing that enables subscribers to share links to read-only versions of full text Nature subscription articles. It also allows readers of 100 media and blog sites to link directly through to the same type of read-only full text papers, so they can see the actual science underlying a news article or review. The ability to share and host these shareable articles is enabled by technology from ReadCube, one of companies in which Digital Science has invested. I'm Timo Hannay, former director of nature.com, and current director of Digital Science, which supports technologies to enable researchers to disrupt the status quo. In my former life, I was a research neurophysiologist in Oxford and in Tokyo, journalist at The Economist and Nature, and a management consultant at McKinsey & Co. I believe that the world is better when discoveries are shared which is why Digital Science creates and invests in technology products that give academic researchers the support they deserve but rarely get. This initiative has generated a lot of excitement as well as some misunderstandings. Today I will be answering questions on how the NPG content sharing initiative works and the motivations behind it. There will also be some live tweeting from @digitalsci and questions using the #scishare hashtag."
