"We are thrilled to announce the formal launch of Kısmet Press. You are receiving this inaugural newsletter because we thought you would be interested in knowing more about our press. We schedule approximately six newsletters per year and will occasionally include free books and discount codes in our newsletter so don't miss out.   What is Kısmet? Kısmet is the Turkish word for fate. It is also a publishing company founded in 2014 by a group of like-minded academics from the University of Leeds in response to the changing state of academic publishing. Kısmet specialises in high-quality, peer-reviewed, Open Access, print on demand publications based on cutting-edge research in the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. Our website can be found here.   What is our philosophy? At Kısmet we are dedicated to the free transmission of knowledge – libera scientia – and firmly believe this is the future (or fate) of the publishing industry. Kısmet has been founded as a partnership with a social enterprise mandate, meaning that not only do we publish high quality Open Access research but all profits are given to the authors, used to operate the company, donated to community groups and charities, or placed into our writing fund for early career researchers. You can find more information about our philosophy here. Very importantly, we don't require that authors pay a fee to publish with us. Kısmet publishes monographs, edited volumes, translations, and booklets in the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. We already have a number of exciting publications in the pipeline, which we’ll be announcing over the coming weeks.
