"UL academic supervisors are reminded that when PhD or research Masters student submit the hard copies of their thesis to the University Examination Board, they will also submit an electronic copy which will be made Open Access via the University of Limerick Institutional Repository (ULIR).  · Increase its visibility as their thesis will be included in Google Scholar, Google, Bing and other major search engines; · Maximise the audience and impact on the web of their research and raise their profile; · Increase the speed of information dissemination; · Potentially lead to early citations of their thesis which will help greatly in their efforts to secure their first post-doctoral position or funding award; · Potentially provide opportunities for networkingand participation in the scholarly community; · Ensure compliance with major funding organisations’ requirements e.g. SFI, IRC, HEA and EU; · Provide a permanent web link for their thesis to ensure it is preserved digitally; · Provide usage statistics to show how many downloads their thesis has received and from what countries ..."
