"A new white paper from the Max Planck Digital Library makes the interesting – but misguided – suggestion that the costs of subscription scholarly journals should be flipped to cover Open Access article processing charges. Disrupting the subscription journals’ business model for the necessary large-scale transformation to open access argues that the global revenues generated by scholarly publishing far exceed what it would cost to cover article processing charges (APCs) for Open Access publishing, so therefore the transformation from a subscription to OA universe is thus possible and sustainable ..."
