CO Meeting Organizer EGU2015 -- OSGeo: Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) in the Geosciences

"The role of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) in geosciences continues to grow. A driving factor for this is the interoperability among existing and future FOSS-tools, which is crucial to address new challenges like Big Data and the emerging field of Datascience. The Open Source Geospatial Foundation, or OSGeo, is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to support the collaborative development of open source geospatial software, and promote its widespread use. It provides a common forum and shared infrastructure for improving cross-project collaboration.and serves as an independent legal entity to which community members can contribute code, funding and other resources, secure in the knowledge that their contributions will be maintained for public benefit. This Townhall meeting will be the opportunity to share our views on the current and future use of open source geospatial software for a better understanding of the Earth system and its changing environment."
