Summary:

[From Google's English] "Professor Bernard Rentier, Rector Emeritus of our Institution and advocate of Open Access (OA), draws the attention of the academic community as a whole on the fact that Elsevier has considerably hardened its position on the matter . In the 2000s, Elsevier had declared war on the OA and it was tough. The Network of Libraries and the Rector had, at the time, faced the low blows to the policy of OA of the Institution and the global academic community. Seeing that institutional repositories as ORBi were not him wrong, Elsevier has relaxed its policy and is limited to a ban on the mere posting of the author Version manuscripts as we practice in ORBi. Today, even the editor displays a turnover of 7.16 billion € of which 2.16 billion net profit. An increase of 16%! However, the success of Open Access in growing to become today unavoidable (mandatory for funds from the European Community and increasing research financing fund in the world, WB also soon Federation and RW), Elsevier, fearing that eventually, its 'business model' becomes obsolete, turned around and revises its policy, up to prohibit the deposit of publications in institutional repositories. Although Obviously, there is no legal basis for this and it is only a vis-à-vis intimidation of researchers who are, themselves, and understandably, very fearful in this respect and may be swayed. A petition has been launched by the defenders of OA to counter Elsevier intimidation maneuver. ULg, is at the forefront of the fight by the constant action of our Honorary Rector Stevan Harnad, OA and father of Doctor Honoris Causa of the University of Liège in 2013 , and Paul Thirion, Director of our Network libraries. The university autoriés encourage everyone to sign this petition (which you will find the link below). The University of Liège, an institution universally known as a pioneer of OA and practicing the strictest policy in the world known for bibliographic filing as the 'Liege Model' must, as a whole, supporting OA by informing through the voice of its researchers, but also of all its staff and its students, it promotes open access to results of research funded by money"
