Embracing open access and offering greater choice for authors

Summary:
" ... The fundamental principle of making the products of
research as widely available and accessible as possible is
one that Canadian Science Publishing (CSP) as a not-forprofit
organization firmly supports.
As the publishing landscape changes and the needs of
our research communities evolve, we respond by continually
enhancing our services for authors and readers and by
creating new options that better serve our communities ... For authors who wish to publish in the journal (e.g.,
Applied Physiology, Nutrition, and Metabolism) of their choice
but need to ensure their research is published OA, they can
simply deposit their work in an open access repository.
To facilitate this process, CSP has established a partnership
with TSpace, University of Toronto Libraries’ free and
secure research repository. Through this partnership CSP is
able to provide, to interested authors, free automatic deposit of their accepted manuscript into the TSpace repository
thus meeting the new OA requirements ... Authors who publish in Applied Physiology, Nutrition, and
Metabolism (or any of the NRC Research Press subscriptionbased
journals) can select OpenArticle and pay to make
their final published article freely available upon publication ... In December 2014, we launched our very first fully open
access journal. This journal will maintain the high quality
editorial standards of the other NRC Research Press journals,
while providing free and immediate public access to
the final published article. For an introductory period,
article processing charges (APCs) will be waived ... We are taking open access a step further by creating a
brand new high-quality, open access, multi-disciplinary —
and uniquely Canadian — publishing platform. We are in
the initial stages of development and are working with
stakeholders from research and publishing communities
in Canada to build a comprehensive, open access platform
that serves the needs of Canadian (and international) researchers
and respects the fundamental principles of open
access. Look for more news on our CSP Open initiative; 2015
will be an exciting year of progress and change, so stay
tuned for more news about this exciting new project ..."
