ASTRO Announces New Open-Access Journal Advances in Radiation Oncology and Founding Editor Robert C. Miller, MD, MBA

"The American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) is pleased to announce the launch of its new open-access journal, Advances in Radiation Oncology, and the selection of its Founding Editor, Robert C. Miller, MD, MBA. Advances will begin accepting manuscripts by the end of the summer with studies to be published by late 2015. Miller is Professor of Radiation Oncology at Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville, Fla.; Medical Director of Mayo Clinic Operations in Northfield, Minn.; and Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees for Mayo Clinic Health System Albert Lea-Austin. Advances is ASTRO’s third peer-reviewed scientific journal, joining the International Journal of Radiation Oncology • Biology • Physics (Red Journal) and Practical Radiation Oncology (PRO) ... Advances will publish original reports on novel retrospectives, hypothesis-generating series, institutional series, natural history of disease, analytics and systems innovations. The journal will also publish teaching cases and brief communications to capture innovations in radiation oncology. All published papers will be available online, free of charge for anyone to read, download and share. Authors will pay a fee for each manuscript accepted for publication to cover the costs of peer review, indexing, typesetting and online hosting in perpetuity. Fees range from $750 for a case report submitted by an ASTRO member to $2,000 for an original report from a non-ASTRO member. In addition, papers not accepted by the Red Journal and PRO may be passed to Advances for consideration; the original paper and any reviews from Red Journal or PRO editors will cascade to Advances’ editors ..."
