"Last week I attended the Linked Open Data for Libraries and Museums (LODLAM) summit in Montreal. There audience was mainly academic and members from the ‘Galleries, Libraries, Archives, Museums’ (GLAM) community. What is interesting about the GLAM community is that there is often a big overlap with academic librarians and many of the problems they are trying to solve involve managing large amounts of digitized content. This is a problem that academic librarians now face as they try to deal with the growing volume of research data being produced. Fortunately, this means that a lot of the interesting techniques that can be applied to research data in order to link it up have already been implemented in the GLAM space. I don’t want to write about the benefits of linked open data, enough has been written on that already. The main thing that struck me was the common need for anecdotal evidence to demonstrate how open data and even linked open data can be of benefit to all the stakeholders in the research life cycle ..."
