That was the tough challenge launched by the U.S. Census Bureau earlier this summer during the National Day of Civic Hacking that extended into the summer. The challenge aimed at encouraging civic minded developers, urbanists, government staff, developers, designers, community organizers, and anyone with the passion to make their city better to apply local and federal open datasets integrated with a new open-source project called the United States CitySDK (Software Development Kit). The U.S. CitySDK, built with support from the White House Presidential Innovation Fellows program, has the sole mission to enable developers to build impactful apps in less time using local and federal open data.
