Access to Research Infrastructures: Charter gives priority to Open Science

"On 10 March 2016, the European Commission presented the updated version of "The Charter for Access to Research Infrastructures" on the occasion of the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures in Amsterdam. The Charter defines non-regulatory principles and guidelines that can be used, on a voluntary basis, in the definition of rules and conditions for access to research infrastructures. It was initially published in July 2015 and a follow-up consultation took place during the autumn of 2015 to assess whether the document would need to be updated in light of new priority areas announced by Commissioner Carlos Moedas in June 2015, namely Open Innovation, Open Science and Open to the World Policies. The current document considers the role of digital science and open access to research publications and data, and highlights that research infrastructures are a “key priority in realising the European Research Area and in promoting open science and open innovation.” The Charter was developed by a working group coordinated by the European Commission, and with the collaboration of the ERA Stakeholders (EUA, CESAER, EARTO, LERU, NordForsk, Science Europe), ESFRI and e-IRG."
