Summary:

[Forwarded from the SPARC IR group] “The Journal of Librarianship and Scholarly Communication (JLSC) joins a growing number of journals and publishers in implementing the Almetric badge on its article pages.  Altmetric provides a means of capturing and tracking the online conversations generated by scholarly articles.  The informal impact of scholarship, particularly within librarianship, is overlooked by formal measures like citation counts; the Altmetric score looks at tweets, blog posts, citation managers and other online sources that indicate interest in each article. The first issue of JLSC was published in May 2012. As an open access journal, JLSC provides a shared intellectual space for scholarly communication librarians, institutional repository managers, library publishing managers, digital archivists, digital data managers and related professionals. The editorial team at JLSC is committed to not only publishing work about changes in scholarly communication, but also to actively experimenting with new tools and services like Almetric that bring clarity and context to scholarly publishing and digital scholarship.
