Summary:

"Today we are excited to announce that the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) is joining the edX XConsortium as our newest university partner. The California Institute of Technology is a world-renowned science and engineering research and education institution, where extraordinary people seek answers to complex questions, discover new knowledge, lead innovation, and transform our future. Caltech's mission is to expand human knowledge and benefit society through research integrated with education. The Institute's professorial, research, and other faculty investigate the most challenging, fundamental problems in science and technology in a singularly collegial, interdisciplinary atmosphere, while educating outstanding students to become creative members of society. We cannot wait for the contributions they will make to the XConsortium and the innovative and engaging courses they will offer.  Caltech will first offer Learning From Data by the award winning Yaser S. Abu-Mostafa, starting on September 30, 2013.  Learning from Data is an introductory course in machine learning (ML) that covers the basic theory, algorithms, and applications. ML is a key technology in Big Data, and in many financial, medical, commercial, and scientific applications. It enables computational systems to automatically learn how to perform a desired task based on information extracted from the data. The course will balance theory and practice, and cover the mathematical as well as the heuristic aspects. Watch the About Video."
