“The World Economics Association (WEA) has launched a new open access journal: the World Economic Review (WER). The first issue looks very good, indeed... This is welcome competition for the Journal of Economic Perspectives (JEP), an open access journal published by the American Economic Association. The target audience of the WER, like the JEP, is the educated reader with or without formal training in economics. But the two journals differ in important ways. The JEP publishes papers by invitation only, whereas the WER invites authors to submit drafts for review and possible publication. The intent of WER editors is to publish papers from scholars working on all continents. The inaugural issue includes articles from authors based in Croatia, Argentina and Singapore, in addition to others based in the Netherlands,  the United States and the United Kingdom.  More than 10,000 economists and related scholars have joined the World Economics Association, which was launched only last year, on May 16, 2011. The WEA encourages readers to sign up to receive by email the Table of Contents for each new issue of the journal. You can do this by clicking on the register link at the top of the WER home page.”
