Data.gov Hits 100,000 Mark for Datasets | FEDweek: FEDweek IT

"After launching in May 2009 with 47 datasets of open government data, Data.gov now has over 105,000 and hundreds of companies are using them to create services and products, GSA said recently in a post on its website looking back over the past five years. (The website Open Data 500 - www.opendata500.com - features a nifty data visualization matching various industries with the datasets being used from federal agencies.) GSA noted in particular the Red Cross, which worked with the Department of Transportation to release a Hurricane App, which was released just before Hurricane Sandy hit shore. According to GSA, the mission of Data.gov has moved beyond trying to figure out how to gather and aggregate data to focusing on the impact it could have. Today, individuals from 175 agencies and 77 other organizations are continuing to release more data along with web services and open APIs. It also said that in the past three years Data.gov has grown to include 4.5 million unique visitors, 447,000 data resources, 227 organizations publishing data, with 4,700 people attending the International Open Government Data Conference online and in person ..."
