Promoting Openness and Transparency to Advance Pain Science: New Initiatives at The Journal of Pain - The Journal of Pain

"The Journal of Pain is committed to promoting open and transparent pain science and has commenced a program of initiatives to support authors to publish open and transparent research. This will ensure that the research can be used and built upon to ultimately benefit people with pain. In 2024, The Journal of Pain created 3 new editorial roles of Assistant Editors for Transparency and Open Science. The purpose of these roles is to support authors, reviewers, and editorial staff to facilitate, reward, and publish open and transparent pain science. As a first step, The Journal of Pain has implemented new instructions and procedures for authors, reviewers, and editors focused on facilitating openness and transparency through research registration, transparent reporting of research and authorship contributions, and open sharing of data, analytic code, and study materials. The focus of this editorial is to outline these changes, highlighting their relevance for improving the value of pain science.
