DataCite Commons: From Surviving to Thriving: A Convening to Reclaim and Sustain Open Science Communities

"This project proposes a strategic convening of five leading open science organizations (The Carpentries, OLS, rOpenSci, pyOpenSci, and PREreview) to collaboratively address two critical and shared challenges: lack of sustainable funding models for these projects and the fragmentation of our community networks. Drawing on our collective expertise in open infrastructure, inclusive training and community building, open source software development, and transforming peer review processes, our organizations will develop collective and values-aligned funding and resource-sharing strategies and a unified approach to community engagement. This convening will generate a coordinated sustainability strategy and a funder-facing pitch to support its implementation. Our long-term goal is to co-design actionable solutions that strengthen the resilience, visibility, and scalability of our collective efforts, ultimately fostering a more equitable and sustainable open science ecosystem."
