December OpenCon Librarian Community Call

Summary:

"Last month, SPARC released a new analysis of Elsevier’s ScienceDirect documenting a variety of data privacy practices that directly conflict with library privacy standards. By analyzing the privacy practices of the world’s largest publisher, the report describes how user tracking that would be unthinkable in a physical library setting now happens routinely through publisher platforms. On December 12th at 12pm ET / 9am PT, the next OpenCon Library Community Call will feature a discussion with Becky Yoose, the lead author of the report, who will provide an overview of this new analysis and actions librarians can begin to take to protect users. Leaders from SPARC’s Privacy & Surveillance Community of Practice will also join the call to discuss forthcoming resources and how libraries can be more involved in this work."
