Liberal Arts in Prison Program Spring 2013 Newsletter
Grinnell in the News 2013-04-22
Summary:
This spring marks ten years since the first Grinnellians went into the Newton Correctional Facility to offer a creative writing course. We are deeply proud of what we've built: a reciprocal, and seemingly unlikely, community of learners who enrich and affirm Grinnell's liberal arts mission.
In a spirit of celebration, we devote this issue to stories about how the Liberal Arts in Prison Program transforms lives. Kyle Orth, who was released from prison in January, reflects on his education before, during, and after prison; Michael Cosby, who we heard from in our first issue, gives us an update on his education and work; Eric McIntyre, Associate Professor of Music, writes about teaching and performing at NCF, and his upcoming scholarship on the program; and Grinnell parent Francie Campbell shares her encounter and involvement with LAPP since last summer. Finally, we share a summary of LAPP's offerings this spring.
We would love to keep you updated. Click here to subscribe to this newsletter.
Sincerely, Emily Guenther '07 Liberal Arts in Prison Program Coordinator
