Although interracial marriage has been fully legal in the United States since 1967, these unions are still rare since the overwhelming majority of Americans marry within their own race.

Today's Talk of Iowa explores interracial marriage and multiracial families in present day and throughout history. University of Iowa law professor and author Angela Onwuachi-Willig discusses her new book on interracial marriage and multiracial families, "According to Our Hearts: Rhinelander v. Rhinelander and the Law of the Multiracial Family." Also, Des Moines couple Frank and Sheena Thomas discuss their life as an interracial couple who has been together since 1968. (AUDIO)
