Mad Mimi: An AWeber Alternative with Whom You’ll Fall in Love!

Laboratory Blog 2013-07-13

In setting up a few new projects recently I’ve been tinkering around with some mailing lists. Ask any Internet marketer which autoresponder service they’re most willing to place their trust in and and I’ve no doubt that they would unanimously vote for Aweber. I’m certain they’re a great choice BUT the sole reason I began hunting for an Aweber alternative was purely down to its expense.

Creating a mailing list is perhaps the most important thing you can do in attempt to generate income from your online website. It allows you to build trust and rapport with your readership and ensure a constant flow of repeat visitors to your site. Your choice of autoresponder is crucial and basing your decision on price alone may prove costly in the long run.

What!? Surely you’re contradicting yourself now?

Well no – not really. Whilst I’ve little doubt Aweber is a well oiled mailing machine, it is my belief that it does not stand alone and there are other services with less of a reputation but just as much clout that are equal to its functionality.

As such, I’d like to bring to your attention a little gem of an autoresponder service known as Mad Mimi.

Mad Mimi is in my eyes the best AWeber Alternative

So let’s get straight down to the nitty, gritty pricing since it’s a given that regardless of how marvellous sounding an autoresponder service is, such details are irrelevant if you simply cannot afford it!

The good news is that for an account storing up to 2,500 contacts and sending a maximum of 12,500 emails a month Mad Mimi is absolutely free!

This is gold if you’re new to email marketing in that there’s no need to throw money at a service that perhaps is not yet producing a return.

In contrast the quite sneakily marketed $1 for a first month trial from Aweber is designed to give you a taste of the good stuff and just find your feet before being lumped with the standard $19/month repeat subscription. Unless you’ve hit traffic gold with your brand spanking new web site then the economics of this just don’t make sense to me here.

Admittedly the free Mad Mimi has it drawbacks compared to a paid subscription. The most useful of disabled features in my eye would be the lack of ability to set up multi-user accounts and drip campaigns. Importantly though – to inherit these features the price plans are without question some of the most affordable in the market.

Unlimited emails with unlimited storage based on 500 contacts costs $10/month scaling up to 10,000 contacts for $42/month.

In having the ability to customise a plan there are price tiers in between these levels to suit your needs. 1,000 contacts, 2,500 contacts and 5,000 contacts are priced at $12, $16 and $27 per month respectively – with larger plans also available at good rates.

Just by way of comparison all in all AWeber plans rock in between 24% and 41% more expensive across the examples given.

But it’s all very well talking money when what you really want to know is does Mad Mimi deliver (hoho!)?

Well undoubtedly yes. It does.

Facebook integration, social links, drips, IP reporting, multiple lists, RSS to email, Google Analytics integration and campaign reports are just a few of the facilities available to Mad Mimi subscribers. There is even a Google Chrome app that will nudge you as to when somebody new has signed up for your list.

Getting down to business and composing emails is simplistic through a drag and drop interface. You can naturally also design and save your own colour-coordinated templates if that floats your boat. I’m actually a big fan of minimalist natural email styling but naturally you may have different taste and design requirements.

If you’re relocating to Mad Mimi from an existing autoresponder service and are concerned with how you’ll take your list with you then you needn’t worry since it’s easy to just import your existing contacts. There’s no additional verification opt-in required on part of the subscriber.

The standard double opt-in requirement enforced by most autoresponders is in fact waived by Mad Mimi if you’d prefer to just grab emails and let folk get on with their business. The only pitfall in doing this is of course you’ll need to stay on top of your bounce and open rates at fear of too many stray, spam email addresses cluttering up your list allowance.

One area that I do feel Mad Mimi falls a little short is the webform designer which is restricted to a default template which can only seriously be spruced up with the aid of a little graphic design work and the upload of an image. This might feel like a bit of a restriction but the chances are a one time investment in a dedicated opt-in creation solution such as the extremely awesome Hybrid Connect WordPress plugin (more on this later) will give you so much more flexibility, versatility and customisation there’s no shadow of a doubt you’d ever miss the AWeber webform builder.

So I’ve done my bit and sang the praises of a marketing method I’m forever falling in love with. I without hesitation recommend you jump on board with me and you could do far worse than take Mad Mimi out for a spin. The super helpful support team are brilliant in turning round queries and can help you fill in any gaps.

With such a superb free solution as your fingertips you’ve got now got no excuse to start building those lists! Get to it!
