Summary:

"The Wikimedia Foundation is looking for an inspiring and collaborative Lead Programs Manager to work with our passionate Programs team to support, maintain and grow core programs, especially Wikipedia Education Program, The Wikipedia Library, and the Wikimedia community’s GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums) initiatives. These international programs are some of the many initiatives through which Wikimedia’s volunteer communities seek to build free educational content and to distribute it to the world. We’re looking for a candidate who is mission driven, an organized and effective project and people manager, an advocate for open knowledge, and excited to help build our global volunteer movement.

We’d like you to do these things:

  • Articulate a comprehensive and coherent perspective on the role of Wikimedia Foundation Programs as they support the Wikimedia movement, and develop a program strategy that supports this perspective.
  • Manage, support, and collaborate with a team of highly motivated staff and contractors.
  • Help scale core Wikimedia programs through the development of monitoring benchmarks to understand the impact of program support services, and guide the iterative development of those services.
  • Communicate the work, aims, and outcomes of the Programs group clearly to internal and external audiences, including the development of awareness and educational materials.
  • Participate as a member of the Community Engagement department’s lead management team in planning and resourcing department-wide objectives.
  • Coordinate across the Community Engagement department to connect program leaders and partners as needed to other resources, including grant writing, learning, and software tools development.
  • Coordinate with other teams and departments in the Wikimedia Foundation (i.e., Partnerships & Advancement, Product teams, etc.) to realize external partnership opportunities and connect potential partners to the appropriate community and affiliate partners.
  • Identify untapped opportunities for aligning Wikimedia Foundation Programs with other international movements, initiatives or standards in relevant international educational, heritage and information communities."
