"GW Libraries and Academic Innovation, the nexus for cross-disciplinary collaboration across campus, is responsible for online learning programs, academic technology, and faculty teaching initiatives. Reporting to the Finance Director, the Compliance Officer of Copyright & Scholarly Agreements works within the Division's Financial Operations Department.

The Compliance Officer of Copyright & Scholarly Agreements serves as an important University resource on copyright and other legal issues by working with appropriate University offices, educating faculty, staff, and students through workshops, websites, consultations, etc., and helping members of the University community to understand agreements and licenses related to copyright.

• Creates, reviews, updates, and implements policies and procedures related to copyright, other intellectual property rights, and scholarly and online communication within the Libraries.
• Assists in developing programs, workshops, and online material to serve as a resource in educating the GW community on scholarly communications and copyright law. Provides information, support, and consultation to University faculty, staff, and students on the process for rights evaluation, permissions requests, publishing choices, understanding of publishing agreements, benefits of open access publishing, rights retention, and intellectual property management.
• Collaborates with appropriate campus partners, Library departments and units on creating and enhancing online and scholarly communication throughout the University. Ensures online materials have appropriate copyright clearance. Collaborates with appropriate Library and Academic Innovation staff on copyright, licensing, and other intellectual property issues as appropriate in order to effectively manage rights while accomplishing LAI goals and priorities."
