Summary:

"The Chief of Staff position is a relatively new role for non-profits and start-ups. These individuals have to reach across departments and disciplines to focus on the big picture. As the Washington Post wrote recently, they “try to take their bosses’ far-fetched ideas and get them across the finish line — which means being an enforcer within an organization and saying no to a lot of projects.” When no one is responsible, they are. When a project or decision is lacking in data, process, structure, or focus, they fix it. They are self-starters and diplomats, and they always pitch in. They make the ship run smoothly, but they also make sure it’s headed in the right direction. This is not an assistant role, it’s a strategic leadership function with collaboration and execution with the CEO and program Directors at the center."
