Summary:

"Prestigious international journal, Nature has picked science pirate site, Sci-Hub's founder Alexandra Elbakyan as one of its Top 10 people in science who mattered in 2016.

"Few people support the fact that she acted illegally, but many see Sci-Hub as advancing the cause of the open-access movement, which holds that papers should be made [legally] free to read and reuse," said the journal, Nature in a statement.

Sci-Hub gained publicity when academic publisher, Elsevier went to court with a complaint against the portal for illegally giving its users access to academic and scientific research papers without its approval, TorrentFreak reported."
