Internet Mathematics Journal

Summary:

"Internet Mathematics is a journal devoted to complex networks, and was founded by Fan Chung Graham in 2003. Research on complex networks is fast-breaking and interdisciplinary, and the journal provides a forum for high quality articles on the topic. The journal was published in four to six volumes a year, was originally published by AK Peters, and then moved to Taylor & Francis (who acquired the latter). I became co-editor-in-chief of the journal in 2010, and have been the sole editor-in-chief since 2015 (with Fan remaining on as founding editor).

We received news in July 2016 that Taylor & Francis would not be publishing Internet Mathematics as January 1, 2017. This news came as shock, as the journal was doing well with number of submissions and their quality. Talking it over with Fan and others, it was decided that we could continue Internet Mathematics, as it provides such a valuable resource for researchers in complex networks.

The journal Discrete Analysis inspired us to consider an arXiv overlay format for the future of the journal. In this model of academic publishing, papers are posted to the preprint server arXiv, and then submitted to IM through an on-line portal run by Scholastica. If a paper is accepted, then the journal links to it on arXiv. However, accepted papers do not go through the usual production phase after revisions; no formatting is required by the journal, and we do not ask authors to transfer of copyright. This makes the process faster that traditionally published journals and gives authors very strong control over their own work. There is a small fee of $10 per submission charged by Scholastica, and Discrete Analysis absorbs that cost. Through support of the Department of Mathematics at Ryerson University, Internet Mathematics will do the same. Hence, we have the important caveat: Submissions to Internet Mathematics will remain free for authors."
