"With about 60 fully-filled seats, Open Data Day 2017 began at 09:00. For the second time in Ecuador (here  2016 edition ),  Datalat and MediaLabUIO organized this event to encourage the use of open data for social transformation . Iván Terceros and Margarita Yepez of the Medialab UIO and Datalat, welcomed the attendees. The focus of this Open Data Day was environment and open data, most of the activities focus on how to use open data tools in this context. Below we review the activities that were grouped in 4 workshops and 5 talks on projects with data, networking and a hands-on closing activity .

We thank all the attendees, the MediaLabUIO and Datalat teams, and all the organizations that supported the event: Urbamapp, Gkillcity, Biciacción, LlactaLab, Mi Bus UIO, OuiShare Quito, Verde Muskuna, Handytec and Fundación Ciudadana y Desarrollo. All these efforts enrich the local community of open data, and above all encourage the use of open data in NGOs, governments, companies and civil society."
