Summary:

"As Joe McArthur recently observed on Twitter: 'It’s a Bad Time to be a Paywall…' Over the past few weeks, three promising new services aimed squarely at connecting researchers directly with free, legal copies of scholarly articles have been announced.

The Open Access Button’s new Interlibrary Loan Integration, and the release of the terrific new UnPaywall tool by ImpactStory are combining to provide unprecedented ease of access to articles in real time. Additionally, the NIH’s new institutional repository LinkOut tool makes it simple to link to full text, library holdings, and other relevant external resources directly from PubMed and other NCBI databases.  The pace of development of innovative new services in the 'open' space is rapidly accelerating, and at SPARC, we’ll do our best to help keep you up-to-date. Look for announcements of new 'rapid-response' programs on these developments in coming weeks!"
