Summary:

"The Research & Scholarly Communications Librarian (RSCL) will develop the College Library's resources and services related to Open Educational Resources, open access, open textbooks, scholarly communication, and digital scholarship.

The RSCL will also develop knowledge in the College Library and on campus of the mentioned topics, and handle liaison relationships with assigned departments, offering instructional and research services, collection development, and related activities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Participate in education and training regarding open educational resources, open access publishing, new scholarly communication models, and digital scholarship to students, staff, and faculty.
  • Keep abreast of trends in scholarly communication and related areas by identifying and attending relevant workshops and conferences and acting as a contact person for interested faculty and scholars.
  • Explore open textbooks and other curricular materials and how they could benefit students and faculty.
  • Provide assistance to faculty who want to adopt, adapt, or create open educational resources for use in the College curriculum.
  • Support digital scholarship projects undertaken by faculty and students.
  • Manage and develop the annual Celebrating Scholarship exhibit and reception.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Contribute to services in the Shadek-Fackenthal Library; 
  • Work with colleagues in both libraries as needed to support the curriculum and research in assigned academic departments;
  • Provide research services, library instruction, and other assistance to faculty, staff, and students;
  • Provide liaison service and collection development in support of the research and information needs of academic departments in assigned areas;
  • Contribute to the formulation of library-wide policies, procedures, goals and priorities.

Expectations:

  • Work with many colleagues to participate in development within the College Library which just completed an ambitious strategic plan. A migration to OCLC's WMS, new digital collection platforms, and a growing interest on campus in open educational resources will allow for the exploration and integration of open scholarly assets in our work.
  • Help determine best approaches to scholarly communications issues, and Shadek-Fackenthal Library services.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and professional staff across the College on scholarly communications and digital scholarship.
