"The Iowa State University Library is seeking a talented, collaborative thinking Open Access & Scholarly Communication Librarian I or II. The University Library takes a student-centered, user-focused approach to our collections and services, and when you embark on a career at Iowa State University, you’ll be surrounded by adventurous minds who are changing the world and shaping the future. Iowa State University is growing, with record enrollment and increasing faculty hires. As a result, there are exciting new positions available within the University Library. Your primary responsibility will be as a Liaison Librarian supporting, advising and training co-workers on open access, open educational resources and emerging issues.

The successful candidate will support ongoing scholarly communication education and activities in the library and across campus by providing workshops, information sessions, events, and creating resources. You will work with the Associate University Librarian for Scholarly Communication and Collections, Scholarly Publication Librarian (Digital Repository), and Data Services Librarian to promote campus awareness and use of open access resources and publishing options for authors, researchers, and students. You will be expected to stay current in scholarly communication, open access, open educational resources, federal public access mandates, academic publishing developments, and the activities of national and international organizations related to scholarly communication such as SPARC or Hathi Trust. A unique aspect to Iowa State University Library is our required undergraduate information literacy course, which many of our librarians teach. You’ll also get to take part in library committees and outreach activities, and will develop a professional reputation through service and/or scholarship.

A successful Iowa State Librarian I will demonstrate effective job performance, development, and growth; show interest in and potential for institutional service; perform effective supervisory duties as assigned; and explore areas of potential research and/or participation in relevant external professional activities.

A Librarian II will need to demonstrate continued effectiveness in job performance through evidence of increasing knowledge, understanding, and skills in performing the duties of their position; demonstrate effective institutional service with leadership potential; perform effective supervisory duties as assigned; and establish area(s) of research interest or exhibits leadership in external professional activities.

You must be able to demonstrate collegiality and respect towards others and develop and maintain collaborative and effective working relationships. You will need to have the ability to communicate effectively and respond to requests in a timely manner. You must participate in accomplishing library-wide projects and objectives, showing initiative and reliability. Let’s face it, now-a-days you need to be innovative and able to provide vision by developing effective and creative solutions to problems because things change, and rapidly. We all must work together to strive to make positive changes to library services, the Iowa State University community, and librarianship, and you’ll be working alongside us to achieve this goal. You’ll need to set, execute and achieve goals so knowing how to plan and organize will be important attributes. Lastly, no big surprise here, you’ll need to embrace the Library’s core values and have strong commitment to public service and the land grant mission.
