Summary:

"Elementa publishes original research centered on the Anthropocene and its effects on Earth’s physical, chemical, and biological systems; interactions between human and natural systems; and potential steps to mitigate and/or adapt to global change. Elementa is a peer-reviewed, exclusively open access online journal, operated on a non-profit business model. The journal is published by the University of California Press, and it was founded in 2012 by BioOne through a partnership with CU Boulder, Dartmouth College, the Georgia Institute of Technology, the University of Michigan, and the University of Washington. The journal is organized into six knowledge domains: Atmospheric Science, Earth and Environmental Science, Ecology, Ocean Science, Sustainable Engineering and Sustainability Transitions, with all of these domains being overseen by experienced Editors-in-Chief from prominent universities. The Atmospheric Science Domain Editor-in-Chief is Detlev Helmig, Associate Research Professor with the Institute of Arctic and Alpine Research at the University of Colorado Boulder. Please visit Elementa: Science of the Anthropocene for a review of the diversity and high quality of published articles thus far.

In order to publish research that is freely and readily available to the public on a complete and immediate open access basis, Elementa depends on Author Publication Charges (APCs) for articles that have been accepted for publication. The CU Boulder Libraries Open Access Fund has committed to funding a minimum of five articles written by CU Boulder authors (first or corresponding author) as a gesture of support for Elementa and its mission. The University Libraries Open Access Fund provides financial support for CU Boulder authors publishing in high quality open access journals. See the Open Access Fund policies and procedures for information on how to apply."
