"The UConn Library invites applications for a senior leadership position reporting to the Vice Provost for UConn Library. The Associate University Librarian (AUL) for Research & Learning partners with a dedicated leadership team in the service of providing leading-edge library programs that strengthen the teaching, research, and outreach mission of the University. The AUL provides leadership for 34 engaged staff that span Storrs and four regional libraries and is responsible for cultivating and maintaining exceptional programs in research, access, and virtual and in-person reference across the UConn Library system. Through partnership with Library colleagues, academic deans, faculty, and students, the AUL leads the effort to enhance cross-disciplinary connections among researchers and collections, pursue funding opportunities, and promote a culture of accessibility and exploration to directly improve the user experience. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Directs, plans, and communicates Research & Learning efforts. Ensures that Area and Unit priorities are in alignment with Library's strategic initiatives.
  2. Provides the vision and direction to develop Library programs that encourage collaboration, innovation, and exploration in current and emerging research models, pedagogical approaches, and access services.
  3. Builds Area-wide expertise in digital publishing and scholarship, data visualization, research data management, geospatial services, and open educational resources.
  4. Directs the data informed assessment of existing collections and programs in research, teaching and learning, and access services. Develops new models to meet evolving user needs.
  5. Supervise, guide and inspire unit staff; conducts major personnel decisions including training and evaluation of staff.
  6. Fosters an organizational climate based on respect, service, teamwork, communication, professional growth, and responsibility in which diversity, creativity, and innovation thrive.
  7. Actively engages in the development, implementation and evaluation of Library goals and objectives, and assists in developing policies and strategic decisions.
  8. Represents the Library through participation in local, regional, and national cooperative, outreach, and professional activities."
