Summary:

Google English: "The EU Earth observation program is breaking new ground in the accessibility of data.

Copernicus Open Data Strategy Already in issue no. 69 we took a look at the comprehensive earth observation program Copernicus (at that time still under the name GMES). Much has happened since then: the first Sentinel satellites are launched and the entire system provides data on the assembly line. More precisely, every day, all systems deliver terabyte-by-bit data about our blue planet, which needs evaluation. That this can not and should not be done by a small scientific community was clear at an early stage and so all these data are at the free disposal.

We talk to the former mission manager of the Sentinel-2A satellite and the newly-minted new head of digital strategy at ESA Bianca Hoersch about the overall and milestones of Copernicus, the data strategy, possible application scenarios and future developments. The program was recorded at the headquarters of ESA in Paris.

Duration: 1 hour 31 minutes. 17.01.2018"
