SAPAC Talk: Open Access and "Predatory Publishing": Where Are We Now? | Rutgers University Libraries

Tuesday, March 6, 2018. "An unfortunate and unintended outcome of the Open Access scholarly publishing model, known as "predatory publishing," has dramatically been expanding in the past few years. Most recently, ambiguous conferences are also popping up all over the world. With the termination of Denver librarian Jeffrey Beall's list in January 2017, perplexed authors need librarians' help more than ever.

After an overview of the issues of Open Access, this presentation will illustrate common practices of questionable and predatory publishers and conference organizers collected from the multidisciplinary field of addiction science. The presenters will offer helpful resources for librarians as they grapple with this topic advising users. The presentation is of interest to anyone concerned about Open Access and predatory publishing.

Panelists include Judit Hajnal Ward (Science Reference/Instruction Librarian) and Laura Bowering Mullen (Behavioral Sciences Librarian/Open Access Specialist) from Rutgers University Libraries. All SAPAC talks are held in the Pane Room at Alexander Library, with videoconferencing to Dana Library Room 454, Robeson Library Room 290, and Smith Library Room C916."
