Summary:

"The University of Hawaiʻi will take part in global Open Education Week 2018 events on Thursday, March 8, 9 a.m.–3 p.m. to encourage the awareness of Open Educational Resources (OER) and open textbooks among faculty and staff.

All campuses within the UH system are invited to participate in activities taking place at UH Mānoa. Morning sessions will be held in the iLAB (Building 37) and afternoon sessions will be held in Kuykendall 101 auditorium and courtyard.

Highlights of the celebration include: Keynote and workshop with Rajiv Jhangiani, one of the world’s most informed proponents of OER. UH Mānoa OER grantee project teams showcase of work tailored to UH students (plus light refreshments). Panels with faculty/instructors on what it takes to “go open” and the future of OER in the UH System. Register online as space is limited. Sessions will also be livestreamed. Go to the OER website for a complete schedule.

More about Open Educational Resources. OER are free instructional materials anyone can customize for their own learning or teaching. OER have the potential to lower the cost of education, improve student success, give faculty more control over their instructional materials, and enable new ways of learning.

Submit proposals for OER textbook projects. Outreach College invites UH Mānoa faculty to submit proposals for OER textbook projects during summer and fall of 2018. Deadline is April 2. Details available at the UH OER website."
