"...Penn State University Libraries seek a Metadata Implementation Specialist to oversee metadata creation, remediation, and quality assurance for digital scholarly content in the Libraries’ digital repository systems. Current systems of focus include: Scholarsphere (Institutional Repository) and our Cultural Heritage Objects repository. These repository systems are key to providing access to Penn State Libraries collection and open access to research conducted at Penn State. Responsibilities of the position include: Coordination of metadata projects and creation of quality assurance (QA) guidelines in consultation with the Metadata Strategist; troubleshooting technical issues with metadata deposit in conjunction with members of the Cataloging and Metadata Services Department and the Digital Scholarship and Data Services Department; providing descriptive metadata to conform to local and international standards; providing quality control and normalization for existing metadata, including batch processes; liaising with colleagues on interoperability of metadata through APIs and QA processes; Preparing training materials and documentation for new metadata creators; identifying correct forms of names, places, and subjects and normalize entries for collections; analyzing the subjects of digital content, including: images, photographs and text documents; contributing to timelines for digital projects, including digitization of collections and metadata work for ingest into the Digital Public Library of America; and serving on committees in support of our institutional repository and digital image projects. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A cataloging background, prior project management experience, demonstrated batch processing with spreadsheets using MARC Edit or Open Refine, knowledge of authority work and subject terminology, and familiarity with metadata schema formats, including XML, RDF, MARC, and JSON-LD are strongly preferred. Familiarity with metadata standards for digital collections: (ie. Qualified Dublin Core, MODS, VRA) and some of the thesauri used with specialized visual and cultural heritage collections – AAT, CCO, etc., and a strong commitment to diversity, equity, respect and inclusion is also required.
