Summary:

"The newly developed Creative Commons (CC) Certificate program was created for librarians, educators, and government in response to the continued growth in the use of CC licenses globally and the corresponding need to help people acquire Commons knowledge and skills. This session will provide an overview of each of the certificates, details on how and why to take the CC Certificates, how to become a certified trailer of CC Certificates, and how the CC BY licensed open educational resources (OER) can be downloaded and remixed for other purposes. Additional phases of the project will also be discussed and feedback collected.

Our speakers, Cable Green and Jennryn Wetzler work with the global open education community to leverage open licensing, open content, and open policies to significantly improve access to quality, affordable, education and research resources so everyone in the world can attain all the education they desire. Both are dedicated to increasing access to educational opportunities for everyone around the world.

As CC’s Director of Open Education, Cable is a leading advocate for open licensing policies that ensure publicly funded education materials are freely and openly available to the public that has paid for them. Cable has twenty years of academic technology, online learning, and open education experience and helped establish the Open Course Library. Cable holds a Ph.D. in educational psychology from Ohio State University and enjoys motorcycling and playing in the mountains with his family. He lives in Olympia, Washington with his wife and two boys.

Jennryn is CC’s Assistant Director of Open Education and project lead for the CC Certificate program. Prior to CC, Jennryn worked on open policy and OER at the U.S. Department of State, piloting OER use for public diplomacy and global partnerships. She’s also enjoyed gaining a different perspective of education through international development work in Thailand and Niger. Jennryn has a Masters in Ethics, Peace, and Global Affairs from American University’s School for International Service. She currently lives in Maryland with her husband Nick. Jennryn enjoys teaching yoga and supporting women as a birth doula in spare time.
