National Documentation Center (ESC), actively participating in the debate held at European level on Open Access to Scientific Publications and Research Outcomes, is organizing an international conference on open scientific communication entitled "Open Scholarly Communication in Europe. Addressing the Coordination Challenge ", Thursday 31 May and Friday, June 1, 2018, at the National Research Foundation (48 Vas. Konstantinou, Athens). The conference is organized in the context of the European project OPERAS-D in which the ESF is involved.

OPERAS-D (Design for Open Access Publications in European Research Areas for Social Sciences and Humanities) aims primarily at developing the European electronic infrastructure for open access to publications in the Humanities and Social Sciences (ACP). Co-ordinator of OPERAS-D is the National Center for Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) and partners of the National Documentation Center, Open Access Publishing in European Networks (OAPEN), Deutsche Geisteswissenschaftliche Institute im Ausland (DGIA) and Knowledge Unlatched (KU) . All five operators are members of the OPERAS network.

The project, funded by Horizon 2020, strengthens the structure of the OPERAS network, a network set up in 2015, by 16 key actors in Open Source Publications in the Humanities and Social Sciences (ACP), with the aim of introduce the principles of Open Science into the ACP and ensure effective dissemination and access to research results.

"In this context, the conference will provide a forum for discussion and exchange of views on developments in the field of scientific communication in Europe and the changes brought about by the example of Open Science," he said in a statement. In this new changing environment, the academic community is called upon to cope with the challenge of effective co-ordination between actors, disciplines, countries in the transition to the Open Science example, with particular emphasis on the Humanities and Social Sciences. Speakers of the Congress are distinguished personalities from Greece, Europe, Canada and Brazil, active in the field of Open Scholarly Communication. "

The working language of the conference is English.
