Summary:

The Software Sustainability Institute’s Collaborations Workshop series brings together researchers, developers, innovators, managers, funders, publishers, policy makers, leaders and educators to explore best practices and the future of research software. Collaborations Workshop 2021 (CW21) will take place online from Tuesday, 30 March to Thursday, 1 April 2021.

The themes of CW21 are:

  • FAIR Research Software
  • Diversity and Inclusion
  • Software Sustainability

The deadline for proposals for participant-led mini-workshops and social activities at Collaborations Workshop 2021 (CW21) is 23:59 GMT on 31 January.

Proposers will be notified of the outcomes by 12 February 2021. If you have any questions or would like to discuss your proposal prior to submission, please email CW21 Chair Rachael Ainsworth

CW21itself will take place from 30 March - 1 April online and registration is open.

Mini-workshops and demo sessions

Mini-workshop and demo sessions offer unique opportunities for CW21 participants and sponsors to give an in-depth look at a particular tool or approach relating to research software. They are 30 minutes long and organised in parallel with other demo sessions - view the CW21 agenda here. We are looking for sessions connected to one or more of the CW21 themes (FAIR Research Software, Diversity & Inclusion, and Software Sustainability) in particular, but are happy to consider any proposals relating to research/software. Proposals can also be related to pitches for the CW21 Hack Day.

There are sessions available on day one and two of CW21 to:

  • Demonstrate a particular software product, approach or standard.
  • Deliver specific training or an interactive tutorial.
  • Conduct information gathering or explore a topic.
  • Other ideas you may have.

If a single 30 minute session is not long enough to achieve your goals, feel free to request two sessions in your response to Question 10: “Any special requirements, prerequisites for participants or other information you would like to include about your proposed session?” in the submission form (if accepted, please note that your full session would be split across the two days).

Please submit your proposal for mini-workshops and demo sessions here.

Social Programme Activities

One of our major goals for CW21 is to improve networking and socialising at virtual events, as this is an aspect that many participants miss from in-person events. Although we are unable to provide morning hikes, drinks reception or a conference dinner, we have built in a networking session on Day One of the CW21 programme. We have also added slots for participant-led social activities, including 30-minute morning sessions and 60-minute evening sessions.

We have the following morning and evening social programme slots available in our agenda for participant-led game nights, yoga or meditation, birds of a feather sessions, quizzes or other ideas:

  • Monday 29 March from 17:00 - 18:00 BST (18:00 - 19:00 UTC)
  • Tuesday 30 March from 09:30 - 10:00 BST (10:30 - 11:00 UTC)
  • Tuesday 30 March from 17:00 - 18:00 BST (18:00 - 19:00 UTC)
  • Wednesday 31 March from 09:30 - 10:00 BST (10:30 - 11:00 UTC)

Please submit your proposal for Social Programme activities here.
