Summary:

About this Event As part of the OPERAS-P project we are looking into innovative, non-bpc, business models to create a sustainable infrastructure for open access book publishing in Europe. Following the publication of a library landscape study, investigating the opportunities for developing collaborative library funding models, and a series of publisher specific case-study interviews, we would now like to invite publishers across Europe to participate in a series of workshops highlighting the diversity of different business models being adopted within Europe. Together with the Open Access Scholarly Publishing Association (OASPA), we will be hosting three European* workshops on business models for open access books targeted specifically at small and medium-sized academic book publishers. These workshops will be free and open both for publishers that already publish open access books and those considering to start with open access book publishing – from within and outside of Europe. While the first workshop will be informative in nature, the following two will be organized as interactive in-depth workshops focused on challenging areas in the OA books publishing process. Workshop 1 : Innovative business models for OA books – 6 approaches in Europe For workshop 1, we will present an overview of a wide variety of business models for open access books currently in use. Six different publishers will present how they each make use of a different business model to publish their books open access. Each presenter will share their experiences and insights with an emphasis on four areas: Revenue, Costs, Legal Issues & Workflows. Presenters: Presenter 1: Sebastian Nordhoff (Language Science Press) Presenter 2: Niklas Alén (Finnish Literature Society) Presenter 3: Martin Paul Eve (Opening the future) Presenter 4: Iva Melinscak Zlodi (FF Open Press) Presenter 5: Rupert Gatti (Open Book Publishers) Presenter 6: TBC This first workshop will provide participants with an overview of the diversity of approaches to open access book publishing and offer insights into how these have been adopted by their peers. Details about the subsequent workshops will also be provided at this event. We invite all interested publishers to register for this free event and join us on April 7th. A detailed agenda for the day will be shared closer to the event date.
